POLISH FILMS CELEBRATE VICTORY IN KYIV

On 30th October the 41. edition of International Film Festival Molodist reached the end. After nine days of film screenings the winners were announced.

Molodist is the oldest festival promoting films of young filmmakers in Ukraine that originated more than 40 years ago in  two-day festival screening films shoot by students of Kyiv State Institute of Theatrical Arts. Back then there were only 33 films presented. Over the years the festival gradually developed. This year Molodist screened more than 300 short and full length films. Today Molodist hosts such events as Boat Meeting – international coproduction market or Talent Workshop.

41. edition of the festival brought Polish film representation many successes. “Twist and Blood” by Kuba Czekaj was awarded the Best Student Film ex aequo with the Argentinean “Coral” directed by Ignacio Chanetona. In the very same category the special mention went to the short animation “Gallery” by Robert Proch. Apart from above mentioned films, Molodist screened also „In every respect” by Oliver Kruger made in Polish coproduction with Germany.

The award at Molodist is the first, long-anticipated international laurel for “Twist and Blood” which is Czkeaj’s graduation film made at Krzysztof Kieślowski Radio and Television Faculty of the Silesian Univeristy in Katowice. The story’s main character Bellyboy is a laughing stock among his peers. His parents want to change him at all costs, get him to lose weight. Bellyboy has his own way of relieving his negative emotions, which he keeps as a secret to everybody.

Another Polish entry, this time in full length competition, “Suicide room” by Jan Komasa, received a special mention for the best feature and a special mention presented by the ecumenical jury.
