„DANNY BOY” - THE BEST ANIMATION OF LA BOCA DEL LOBO
Last Thursday the awards at Spanish La Boca del Lobo were presented. During the closing ceremony, that was held in cinemateque Matadero in Madrid, “Danny Boy” directed by Marek Skrobecki was announced the best short animation.
In the competitive programme of this year’s 14th edition of festival there were 76 short animations and fiction films screened. Fortunately enough Polish films gave a visible performance in the selection as four titles were accepted to the competition: “Barbican” by Bartek Żmuda, “Paths of Hate” by Damian Nenow, “Birthday” by Jennifer Malmqvist and already mentioned “Danny Boy” by Marek Skrobecki. During yesterday’s ceremony the awards were presented to the best films in the categories of fiction, animation, super short film, soundtrack and people’s choice award. “Danny Boy” by Marek Skrobecki proved to be the best among all the animations and won the main award in its category.
Film made by Se-Ma-For studio in coproduction with Switzerland tells the story inspired and based on the popular song Danny Boy. The main character of the film is a young man wandering aimlessly the streets of an anonymous city. What enhances his feeling of loneliness is the fact that he is distinctly different from others. One day a girl appears on his way – will she accept his otherness?; maybe she will reject him? The film is an ironic social satire; it discusses a current problem of alienation of an individual and individual’s place in the structure of the society.
The award at the Spanish La Boca del Lobo is not the first distinction for the film. So far “Danny Boy” was awarded at Swiss Nauchatel International Fantastic Film Festival and Solothurn Film Festival while Marek Skrobecki received the award for the best director at International Animation Film Festival ANIMANIMA in Serbia. This year the film took the award for the best animation at 62. International Short Film Festival Montecatini in Italy.
Festival screening will last till Sunday.
