POLISH ANIMATION PROGRAMME AT LIAFF

During the biggest animated film festival in England – London International Animation Film Festival – an extensive Polish animated programme will be screened. Polish films will be displayed to watch between 28th and 29th August.

London festival is being organized annually at the turn of August and September and its first edition was held in 2004. Apart from varied competitive sections the programme abounds in numerous retrospectives and thematic cycles screening animated documentaries, music videos, experimental films and many more.

Last year three Polish animations were screened at the festival – “Esterhazy” by Izabela Plucińska, “The Kinematograph” by Tomek Bagiński and “Zbigniew’s Cupboard” by Magdalena Osińska. This time the Polish representation will be significantly more visible during the festival. Twenty short films made in Poland in the last five years will form two programmes. Among the films included in the screening the audience will have a chance of watching: „Gallery” by Robert Proch, „Paths of Hate” by Damian Nenow, „The Lost Town of Świteź” by Kamil Polak, „Danny Boy” or „Ichthys directed by Marek Skrobecki to name just a few. The very same selection of films was already screened at Melboune International Animation Festival in Australia in June.

Our national animation has still a very warm reception abroad. This is what can be read about it at the LIAFF’s website: “Drawing from a vast culture of storytelling and fairytales, a deep well of profound historical experiences and an exposure to a multitude of artistic influences, Polish animation has a history, a depth and a diversity that few countries can hope to match.”

Another two Polish films will be screened in the festival’s sections – “Maska” by Quay Brothers and full length animation - “George the Hedgehog” – whose representative Wojtek Wawszczyk will lead the masterclass on 28th August.

The festival will be held from 26th to 31st August.

The full programme can be found at the festival’s website
