"ACID RAIN" AWARDED IN SWITZERLAND

Tomek Popakul's film leaves another festival with a statuette. This time, the animated film won the "High Risk" award at the Swiss Fantoche.

The Fantoche - International Animation Film Festival is a six-day celebration of the animated film, held for 17 years in the Swiss Baden. The festival enjoys great recognition both among the professionals, people from the film industry and the audience, as evidenced by the 25 000 sold tickets in 2015. The guests have a lot to choose from, and the organisers place importance on diversity and openness.  In the programme, there are films made in a variety of techniques which were created all around the world.

This year, only two Polish animated films were shown at the festival. The award-winning "Acid Rain" by Tomek Popakul and the film "Metro" by Natalia Krawczuk, shown in the non-competing section.

The award-winning film is set somewhere in Eastern Europe. Młoda runs away from home, as far away from the grey reality as possible. The initial excitement of the hitch-hiking journey subsides when she ends up on the outskirts of the city in the middle of the night. On the bridge, she notices a figure dangerously balancing on the railing.  This is how she meets Chudy, a little bit unbalanced freak. Chudy lives in a recreational vehicle which he drives in order to attend his not necessarily legal errands. Młoda decides to join Chudy. Their road together takes them to increasingly strange regions, and an unnamed bond quickly forms between them.

This year's edition of the festival was held from the 3rd of 8th of September.
