ANIMATED FILMS AT THE FILM FESTIVALS IN SEPTEMBER
The beginning of autumn promises to be intensive for Polish animated film-makers. This month, screenings at over 15 film festivals are in store for us.
The month started with the screening of Polish film "Black" by Tomasz Popakul at the festival Fantoche. The festival is held in Baden since 1995 and it is entirely dedicated to animated film. Every year, the festival is visited by over 200 film-makers and experts. In 2013, Popakul won the New Talent award at this festival - the award given to the best student or début film - for his diploma film "Ziegenort."
From September 6 to 12, there are screenings of Polish animated films within the frames of the ongoing Argentinian festival Cartón. The viewers of the festival have a chance to watch films awarded during this year's edition of O!PLA.
On September 15, starts the festival Linoleum in Ukraine, at which the film "Gyros Dance" by Piotr Loc Hoang Ngoc will be presented.
Immediately afterwards, at the prestigious festival Encounters in Bristol, the viewers will have a chance to watch two animated films in the competition: "Don't Lose Your Head" by Karolina Specht and "Black" by Tomasz Popakul. The festival is one of the most important European film festivals, showing short films.
Almost at the same time begins the film festival in Ottawa - the oldest and the most important festival in North America, dedicated to animated film. This year, OIAF received over 2311 submissions from 86 countries. From among them, 80 short and 7 full-length films were selected for the competition, including 4 Polish films. The film "Impossible Figures and Other Stories II" by Marta Pajek will participate in the short film competition. The films "Foreign Body" by Marta Magnuska and "The Shavings" by Agata Mianowska will be shown in the section for diploma films. The viewers will see "Pussy" by Renata Gąsiorowska in the student film panorama.
