FILMS BY PAJEK AND PLUCIŃSKA AT THE 16TH INTERNATIONAL ANIMATION FESTIVAL IN HIROSHIMA

On August 18, starts the 16th edition of International Animation Festival Hiroshima, which is held every two years. In this year's competition at the festival, two Polish films will compete.

This year, over 2200 films have been submitted to the festival, out of which 60 animated films are selected to the competition, including two Polish ones: "Impossible Figures and Other Stories" by Marta Pajek and "Sexy Laundry" by Izabela Plucińska.

"Impossible Figures and Other Stories II" is the second part of the triptych based on the idea of impossible figures, that is, figures which can be drawn, but whose existence in reality is impossible. The animated series by the author is a statement on the role of women defined in three dimensions - starting from the most intimate one - such as home and family to the wider social context. The third part of the triptych "Impossible Figures and Other Stories" with the working title "Strip-tease" was given production props from Polish Film Institute. The production starts in autumn. The producer of the triptych by Marta Pajek is the animated film studio Animoon in Warsaw.

Marta Pajek is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, where she completed her studies at Jerzy Kucia's Animated Film Studio. Her films, among others, "Next Door" and "Sleepincord" were shown at numerous festivals in Poland and abroad.  Her works were also exhibited in contemporary art galleries.

"Sexy Laundry" is a German-Polish-Canadian film co-production. The film image is a funny, full of accurate observations, comedy about male-female relations, in which everyone can find themselves. Plasticine, which has been Izabela Plucińska's specialisation for many years, enables her to play with the form and to think outside the box of realism.

Izabela Plucińska studied animated film at the Polish National Film, Television and Theatre School in Lodz and graphics and design at the local Academy of Fine Arts, also at the Film & Television Academy (HFF) "Konrad Wolf" in Potsdam. From among numerous plasticine animated films, her most successful film was Jam Session (2005), honoured with countless awards, including the Silver Bear for short film at the festival in Berlin.

The festival films will be available this year from August 18 to 21, and the list of award-winners will be announced on August 22.
