ANIMATED FILM FESTIVALS IN NOVEMBER
In November, Polish animated films will be present at large and prestigious film festivals. This month, screenings at over 20 festivals are in store for us.
The month started with the Reanimania festival, held at the turn of October and November, which celebrated its 7th edition this year. In the international short film section, the film by Jerzy Kucia was presented, "Fugue For Cello, Trumpet and Landscape". Another festival, which was held at the turn of October and November, was the Italian video art and animated film festival Invideo. The programme included the film by Karolina Specht, "The Incredibly Elastic Man."
This month, Polish animated films are also present in the competitions at prestigious festivals, among others, at the 60th Film Festival in Cork ("Woolen Cogwheels" by Bartosz Kędzierski and "Magic Mountain" by Anca Damian) and at the 30th Mar del Plata Film Festival ("Of A Forest" by Katarzyna Melnyk). Four Polish animated films are invited to the competition at the Short Film Festival in Istanbul. The viewers of the Turkish festival will see, among others, the aforementioned "Of A Forest," "The Incredibly Elastic Man" and "under_construction" by Marcin Wojciechowski and "But she's nice..." by Tomasz Pilarski. In the competition at the oldest Portuguese animated film festival Cinanima, there are two Polish films - "Summer 2014" by Wojciech Sobczyk and aforementioned "Woolen Cogwheels" by Bartosz Kędzierski. Polish animated films are also included in the programme of the 14th edition of the festival Les Sommets du Cinema d'Animation. This year's edition of the festival starts with the screening of "Magic Mountain" by Anca Damian, and the film "Who's there?" by Artur Hanaj is in the student film competition. The festival ends on November 29.
"Toto" by Zbigniew Czapla is among few films selected for the participation in the Korean festival Seoul Best of the Best Film Festival. Only animated films shown at important film festivals can be submitted to the participation in the competition. So far, the film by Czapla has been shown at over 60 international film festivals. Polish films were successful also at another Asian festival. At the Sichuan TV Festival, which ended on November 8, two Golden Panda awards went to Jerzy Kucia for his "Fugue for Cello, Trumpet and Landscape".
In November, there are also as many as 11 international screenings within the frames of the series O!PLA Across the Borders. The films by the award-winners of the O!PLA Nationwide Polish Animated Film Festival will be watched, among others, in Edinburgh, Ottawa, Bratislava and Moscow. The 100-minute-long programme includes 19 animated films, among others, "Blue Room" (T. Siwiński), "Loop" by Michał Socha and "Hippos" by Piotr Dumała. The screenings are organised by Piotr Kardas's Animation Across Borders.
