THE FESTIVAL OF POLISH ANIMATED FILMS COMING SOON IN LEUVEN

The first edition of the festival of Polish animated films will be held from 15-17 April in Leuven, Belgium. Polish Animation is the media partner of the event.

The festival was born out of the need to confront the achievements of the authors of artistic animated films - professionals as well as students and independent producers. The most important aim of this event is the integration through culture, where the geographical boundaries do not exist, and interpersonal communication is not diffused by language differences.

Eminent animated film-makers are invited to the festival: Piotr Dumała, who will give a masterclass on the first day of the film screenings, Marek Skrobecki, the meeting with whom will be held the following day, Raoul Servais and Luc Degryse, who will support the festival PAF 2016 with their experiences and competence.

The festival PAF2016 will be an opportunity to meet the representatives of the research group "Spherical 3D Film. The Birth of a New Visual Language in Storytelling," working at the Lodz Film School. Iwona Pomianowska, PhD, who is at the same time the art director of the festival PAF2016, together with Jacek Nagłowski will present at the workshops the world of VR - "Virtual Reality Film." The academics will talk about their research on the narrative in the three-dimensional spherical film, about building the sense of immersion in VR and about the use of virtual reality to create virtual museums and art galleries.

The author of the festival poster is Kaja Renkas, who deals with graphic design, printmaking and painting. The artist works at the University of Silesia in the Institute of Art, where she teaches Game Design, which is also akin to the field of 3D spherical film. Kaja Renkas will come to Leuven with her exhibition, the opening ceremony of which is held on April 17 in Wereld Coop.

The festival PAF2016 will also be the pretext to initiate international dialogue, both with the young generation of cartoonists, and the students of other fields of art from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Gandawa K.A.S.K., as well as with renowned Belgian authors of comics. This second group is represented by Bart Schoofs, recognised author of comics as well as educator of the young generation, sensitive to visual language.

The festival is organised in co-operation with the Lodz Film School and the Cultural Service of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Brussels. More information and the detailed programme can be found on the event's website and here.
