„ZIEGENORT” AND „MAGMA” AWARDED IN POITIERS
Two Polish student films were awarded during the closing evening of the 37th Poitiers Film Festival. The jury decided to present the awards to “Ziegenort” by Tomasz Popakul and “Magma” by Paweł Maślona.
The Poitiers Film Festival that until recently was held named Rencontres Henri Langlois is the biggest French festival presenting student films and one of the most prominent European festivals of its kind. This year precisely 52 short films competed for the festival awards, among them four films made by the students of Polish film schools including “Fragments” by Aga Woszczyńska and “Killing auntie” by Mateusz Głowacki. The competitive lineup included fiction, documentary, animated and experimental films.
On Sunday evening during the closing ceremony of the festival the laureates were announced. The Special Jury Prize went to the animated “Ziegenort” by Tomasz Popakul. The film tells the story of a Fish boy facing the problems of growing up. Film was produced by the Krakow based NoLabel studio and is a diploma film by Popakul who graduated from Polish National Film School in Łódź. Up to day the “Ziegenort” was awarded more than 20 times abroad.
French Critics’ Discovery Prize, presented by the jury composed of the French critics, went to short fiction “Magma” by Paweł Maślona. The film is a tragicomedy and a story of Janusz who is a salesman in a furniture shop. One day he accidentally destroys a pillow. This is the first “accident” in the company since very long time and he seems to be really upset about it. Maślona is a graduate of the Radio and Tv Faculty of Silesian University. This is the fifth award for Maślona’s film which so far was awarded at festivals in Palm Springs, Potsdam, Prague and Boston.
