AGNIESZKA RAJDA WINS BEST ACTRESS AWARD FOR HER ROLE IN “WEIRD TO BE HUMAN” IN SYDNEY
Jan Grabowski’s film “Weird to be Human” made its Australian premiere at the Sydney Science-Fiction Film Festival. The film returned to Poland with an award for Agnieszka Rajda for Best Actress in a Short Film. The festival’s seventh edition took place from 9 to 11 October 2026.
The Sydney Science-Fiction Film Festival is Australia’s leading event dedicated to speculative cinema. This year’s seventh edition received a record number of submissions, with films from 45 countries featured in the programme. “Weird to be Human” was the only Polish film selected for the festival.
Agnieszka Rajda, who plays the humanoid lead character, was recognised by the jury for her performance. As festival director Simon Foster explains: “As the AI construct in the process of transitioning to a new human form, the striking Agnieszka Rajda soars as one of the great human/android hybrids in film history. You’ll never forget the first impression she makes, or the last.”
This is another accolade for Rajda, who previously received an award for outstanding acting at the 2025 Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal.
Jan Grabowski’s “Weird to be Human” is a futuristic story set in 2194, when transfers between the digital and physical worlds have become commonplace. Special facilities grow bodies for artificial intelligences seeking to take on human form. An official from the Department of Embodiments arrives at one such facility to speak with a being nearing the end of its transformations.
