”ZIEGENORT” ANNOUNCED THE BEST ANIMATION AT RAINDANCE
On Saturday evening, the jury of the 21st edition of Raindance Film Festival announced the list of awarded films. This year two Polish titles competed in the short film competition and one of them, the animated “Ziegonort”, has been given one of the main awards of the festival.
At the beginning of the festival, the jury of Raindance announced the short list of the films nominated for awards in each of the competitive categories. Among these, in the Best International Short programme, was the fiction film “The Big Leap” directed by Kristoffer Rus, one of the two Polish titles competing for the prize in London. The second one, successful “Ziegenort” directed by Tomek Popakul left behind five other nominated animated short films.“Ziegenort”, Popakul’s graduation film produced by the NoLabel studio from Krakow is a story set in a small, seaside village. A hard-working father is trying to teach his teenage son to work as a fisherman. The introvert fish-boy will have to face the first serious competition. The world discovered by the boy is full of unsettling signs, striking observations, which on multiple occasions scare him. An intriguing, graphic animation by Popakul is an attempt to show the fears of a teenager stepping into his adult life.
„Ziegenort”, the winner of eight international prizes and two honorary mentions, has been included in the programmes of more than forty film festivals all over the Word. Only in October, it was invited to eight festivals. The sales agent of this film is “New Europe Film Sales”, while the promotion of the film abroad has been supported by the Krakow Film Foundation.
Let us remind, that this year for the first time in the Raindance festival’s history, the most widely discussed Polish films of the last few months were presented in the “Polish Strand”, including “Aftermath” by Władysław Pasikowski and “The Girl From The Wardrobe” by Bodo Kox. The feature films screenings were preceded by short films, four of them altogether, that is the animated “Ab ovo” by Anita Kwiatkowska-Naqvi, “Ziegenort” by Tomek Popakul and “The End” by Ewa Chruściel, as well as the short fiction film “The Mother” by Łukasz Ostalski. Apart from that, the audience in London had the chance to see two Polish documentaries, the film “Love” by Filip Dzierżawski and “The Lust Killer”, the latest documentary by Marcin Koszałka.
This year’s, 21st edition of the festival was held between 25 September and 6 October.
