MARCIN JANIEC'S THE GAME SCOOPS OVERSEAS AWARDS

Two awards – Best of Show from the Indie Fest in California and Rising Star Award voted for by the jury of the Canada International Film Festival – were granted last week to Marcin Janiec, the director of a 3D animation short titled The Game.

The Game is a story about a chess duel fought in the realm between life and death. What is at stake is what we value the most – a life pass – and the judge is someone you would definitely not like to meet...

Last week brought about as many as two awards. Its “unique, substantial visual art combined with high quality animation” was appreciated at the Indie Fest – the California independent film feast – where Janiec's short scooped one of the Best of Show prizes. The Indie Fest competition is held every three months and the jury is looking for filmmakers of exceptional artistry and creativity.

One of the major Canadian festivals – the Canada International Film Festival – will not begin until March 31, but the jury had already decided on the prestigious Rising Star Awards. The Game was ranked within the top ten animations which will receive the prize in this category. The winners have been selected from among hundreds of films submitted from 30 countries.

The animation by Marcin Janiec has just embarked on its journey around international film festivals. In the next few months it will compete in Washington, Cleveland, Boston, Stuttgart, and Palm Beach, among others. The European premiere of The Game will take place in March, at ÉCU – the European Independent Film Festival in Paris. Janiec's work is among the titles featured during the opening of the Festival and, according to press releases, the organizers call it one of the highlights of the event.

The Game is a double debut: both directorial and producing. The film was co-produced by Badi Badi f/x Studio – up until now known mostly for post-production, Marcin Janiec and Studio Spot.
