“BEASTS AMONG US” IN CANNES

The premiere screening of Natalia Durszewicz's latest animated film will be held at the Cannes Film Festival. The short film was invited into Cinéfondation's competition.

Cannes Film Festival is one of the most important and prestigious film events in the world. Every year, the selection panel receives a record number of applications for each section. Thousands of talented creators dream of showing their films on the French Riviera.

The Cinéfondation competitive segment is dedicated to student films. This is an extremely lucky competition for Polish animators. After the films “The Little Soul” and “My Fat Arse and I” winning awards there in recent years, it is now the turn for Natalia Durszewicz and her “Beasts Among Us”.

The animated film invited to Cannes is set in a surreal space and examines the reversal of the roles of victims and predators. The production shows our world from the perspective of those most vulnerable. Those at the end of the food chain, eaten, exploited for entertainment purposes, doomed to be stuck in a lower social layer.  A world full of inequality, divisions, brutality, and a constant struggle for survival. This reality makes it hard to keep one's innocence. Victims turn into predators, predators into prey.

This year's edition of the festival is scheduled to take place on 6-17 July.
