POLISH ANIMATED FILMS AT INTERNATIONAL FESTIVALS IN MARCH
A breath of spring in festival life. A lot more is going on in March, and if there's stuff happening, you can bet Polish animated shorts are present too. Check out which Polish productions will get the chance to win jury and audience acclaim at international events this month.
Right at the beginning of the month, two Polish animated films will appear at two majort events. Fury by Julia Siuda will be screened in-competition at the Wiesbaden International Animation Festival in Germany, while Crab by Piotr Chmielewski will be judged by the jurors of the Carrousel International du Film de Rimouski in Canada.
The Tricky Women/Tricky Realities Festival begins on Women's Day. As usual, the program of this Austrian event will include Polish animated films. The audience will get to watch 98 kg by Izabela Plucińska, Hierophany by Maria Nitek, Headprickles by Katarzyna Miechowicz, as well as Julia Siuda's animated film. Fury will also be present at the Wench Film Festival in India. On the same day as the feminist film event, the Tampere Film Festival begins too, with Toothless by Andrea Guizar having a competition screening.
Guizar's animated film has also been invited to International Encounters Traverse. The program of this French festival also includes Crumbs of Life by Katarzyny Miechowicz, Ashes by Joanna Dudek, backstage_episodes by Marcin Wojciechowski, My Fat Arse and I by Yelyzaveta Pysmak, and Co-ognition by Przemysław Świda.
The second half of the month won't slow down. This Will Not Be a Festival Film by Julia Orlik is going to visit the Ismailia International Film Festival for Documentaries and Short Films in Egypt, Aleksander Makowski's Opus Magnum will go to Slovakia for the International Film Festival FEBIOFEST BRATISLAVA, while Julia Siuda's Fury will be present at the International Short Film Week Regensburg 2022.
A sizeable representation of Polish films can be found in the program of Portugal's MONSTRA – Lisboa Animation Festival. There's a sizeable list of Polish films competing for awards there: Airborne by Andrzej Jobczyk, Headprickles by Katarzyna Miechowicz, The Thrown Away Book by Agata Gorządek, Slow Light by the Kijek/Adamski duo, Once There Was a Sea… by Joanny Kożuch, and Curiosa by Tessa Moult-Milewska.
The audience in the Lithuanian capital will have the opportunity to see three Polish short films. Perhams one of the main awards of the Vilnius International Film Festival Kino Pavasaris will go to Headprickles. Polish animated films are also going to be present at the ONE Country ONE Film International Festival in France. In addition to Toczek's film, the local audience will also see Piotr Chmielewski's Crab and The Bridge by Izumi Yoshida.
The audience at the Roanne Animation Short Film Festival - Ciné court animé will find as many as five Polish titles in its program. Airborne by Andrzej Jobczyk, Misaligned by Marta Magnuska, Once There Was a Sea… by Joanna Kożuch, and Slow Light by the Kijek/Adamski duo have all been invited to its competition. In turn, Piotr Chmielewski's Crab will be screened out of competition.
Airborne flies to the Sonoma International Film Festival at the end of the month. In a similar timeframe, Headprickles will be screened at the Glasgow Short Film Festival while This Will Not Be a Festival Film is set to appear at the Kaboom Animation Festival just a short while later. The Windows of That House by Urszula Domańska, and Airborne will both appear at the Festival International MUSIC & CINEMA Marseille. Andrzej Jobczyk's film is also going to visit the European Film Festival of Lille.
During the Martovski Festival - Belgrade Documentary and Short Film Festival in Serbia, both the jurors and the audience will watch Toothless by Andrea Guizar. The program of the Hong Kong International Film Festival is also going to feature Misaligned by Marta Magnuska.
