“KILL IT AND LEAVE THIS TOWN” WITH A CHANCE TO LAND AN OSCAR NOMINATION

The film by Mariusz Wilczyński is among the feature-length animations competing for a nomination for this year's Academy Award.

This year, the list of nominated titles will be announced very late, only on 15 March, and we will have to wait for the gala itself until April 25. The schedule was changed due to the pandemic. Mariusz Wilczyński's latest film is among the feature-length animations competing for a nomination.

The protagonist of the animation is a man who – fleeing despair after the loss of his loved ones – hides in a safe land of memories, where time stands still and all his loved ones are still alive. Over the years, the city develops in his imagination. One day, childhood heroes and idols known from literature and cartoons, who are eternally young in the minds of future generations, arrive uninvited. When our hero discovers that everyone has grown old and there is no eternal youth, he decides to return to real life.
The film is an autobiographical impression, a reminiscence of childhood vignettes, in which the memories of deceased parents and the hometown of Łódź come alive.

Let us recall that two years ago, “Another Day of Life” by Damian Nenov and Raúl de la Fuente competed for the nomination, and in 2018 “Loving Vincent” by Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman had a real shot at winning.
