“MARBLES” WINS AT REANIMA

Natalia Spychała’s film was considered the best experimental animated film during this year’s edition of the Norwegian festival.

ReAnima Festival is one of the most significant European events devoted to bold, independent animations. It isn’t only a great place to watch films, but also a space for learning the secrets of animation and joint discussions.

Winning in the experimental category, Marbles by Natalia Spychała presents a hypnotic pendulum that sets a certain mechanism in motion. The intermittent appearance of a certain figure, space, and various kinds of objects come together forming a rhythmic arrangement of mutual dependencies. Sound is intertwined with visuals, creating a melody of reoccurring events. What’s the effect and what’s the cause? A stop motion animation utilising threads placed on a Vaseline-coated glass plate.
