"ACID RAIN" NAMED BEST INTERNATIONAL PRODUCTION IN KOSOVO

Tomek Popakul's animation continues to be praised by jurors of international festivals. This time the film was recognized as the best international production at this year's edition of the Anibar festival in Kosovo.

Anibar International Animation Festival was created by a group of enthusiasts and activists in 2010. This festival is entirely dedicated to animated films. Every year, the program features the most interesting films from around the world, but also invites its guests to take part in workshops, debates and seminars. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, the range of special events was severely limited, and film screenings were held online.

This year, three Polish animations have been invited to the international competition - "Guilt" by Marcjanna Urbańska, "Ovule" by Natalia Durszewicz and the winning "Acid Rain" by Tomek Popakul.

The awarded animation is set somewhere in the Eastern Europe. Young runs away from her depressing hometown. Her early enthusiasm about the hitch-hike falls when she finds herself in the city outskirts in the middle of the night. At the bridge she meets a figure balancing unsafely on the guardrail. That’s how she meets Skinny – a kind of unstable weirdo. Skinny lives in a camping van, which he uses to run his not-so-legal job errands. Together with him, she sets on a journey with no destination. As the ride continues a particular affection grows between the two of them.
